Washing lyocell: This is how you properly care for bed linen and other products made from textile fibers

Bed linen and other products made from the semi-synthetic plant fiber Lyocell are not only popular among allergy sufferers. The material is breathable and has great cooling and warming properties. To ensure that you can enjoy your Lyocell or TENCEL™ bed linen for a long time, you need to take proper care of it. Find out everything important you should consider when washing Lyocell.

Washing instructions and instructions: Wash lyocell bed linen correctly

Lyocell is a durable material that can withstand a lot. However, proper care is important so that the material retains its positive properties for a long time. With these washing instructions you are on the safe side.

1. Always air out Lyocell bed linen properly

Before you put your bed linen in the washing machine, you should air it out. It's best to air them out once a day to remove moisture. This also helps the cellulose fibers bounce back to their original shape.

Important: Avoid direct sunlight as this damages the fibers!

2. Select the washing machine settings correctly

1. The right temperature

As a rule, products such as clothing or bed linen made from Lyocell / Tencel can be easily machine washed at up to 60 degrees Celsius. But that depends heavily on the product.

Our Lyocell bed linen , for example, should only be washed at a maximum of 40°C ( washing instructions for Lyocell bed linen as a comparison). Because it has a very fine surface and high thread density.

Therefore, pay attention to what is written on the washing label of your product.

2. Sort laundry correctly

Always wash your bed linen separately from other textiles, including mixed fabrics, to avoid pilling on the surface.

3. Choose the appropriate program

Use a full program for Tencel and deactivate all water saving programs. Your bed linen needs enough water to be cleaned well.

4. Use the right detergent

It is best to use a wool detergent for laundry and avoid fabric softener.

To ensure that the detergent cleans your Lyocell bed linen properly, do not put it directly into the drum, but into the detergent compartment. This is the only way to distribute the detergent evenly.

5. The right spin cycle

Ideally, you should set the spin cycle to 600 revolutions so that there is no damage to the material when washing delicate items. For mixed fabrics or low thread counts, you can also wash at 800 revolutions.

3. Drying the bed linen

The gentlest way to dry your Lyocell bed linen is to lay it flat on several clotheslines or drying racks. Again, avoid direct sunlight to avoid drying out.

Depending on whether it is a mixed fabric, you can also put Tencel products in the dryer at a low temperature.

Should you iron Lyocell products?

It is possible to iron Lyocell or Tencel. Make sure to use low heat here too. To protect the material from drying out, it is best to use an iron with steam.

Alternatively, you can place a damp cloth over the fabric. In most cases, Lyocell dries wrinkle-free, so it is not necessary to iron the textiles afterwards.

Lyocell - the most important natural fiber

Lyocell is a semi-synthetic plant fiber obtained from wood. Eucalyptus is particularly popular for production because the tree is sustainable and does not require pesticides.

No harmful by-products are produced during the production of the fabric, and all solvents are non-toxic and reusable. That's why Lyocell is so popular today for home textiles, clothing, bandages and in industry.

In addition, the production of Lyocell is quick, so less water and energy is required than, for example, cotton.

By the way: Lyocell and Tencel mean the same thing. Tencel is just the brand name of the manufacturer Lenzing, which brings Lyocell onto the market.

Bed linen made from Lyocell or Tencel is breathable and hypoallergenic. Because the material has excellent cooling properties, you sweat less, so bacteria don't have a chance to take hold. House dust mites therefore do not find a basis for life in Lyocell bed linen.

Textiles made from Lyocell are soft and therefore very comfortable to wear. This also applies to bed linen, which has a particularly silky feel. In addition to bed linen, there are numerous suppliers of clothing made from Lyocell. Lyocell has proven itself as a material for everyday and sportswear, especially in summer.
